Since
its foundation, B45 has a great concern for
the environment issues.
The environmental commitment of B45 starts
at the forest stand and ends with the packaging
and shipment to our customers. First, B45’s
wood supply comes from certified forests (FSC),
or in the process of being certified which
ensures state of the art harvesting and regeneration
operations allowing the sustainability of
the resource for future generations. Logs
are processed by sawmills with high environmental
performances and equipped with quality and
environmental monitoring systems. Sawmilling
by-products are processed and discharges according
to controled environment procedure. During
bat manufactoring, B45 recovers all sawdust
and wood chips to produce granular energical
pellets. All our bats are produced using hydropower
from Quebec which is the cleanest source of
energy in the world. Drying is carried out
under a vacuum facility which greatly reduces
energy use and provides our bats a uniform
moisture content improving its performance.
Our bats are painted with natural dyes and
varnishes, water-based resulting in no risk
of contamination of the environment. Our packaging
uses highly recycled cardboard. Finally, B45
delivers its products through existing transport
systems which greatly reduces emissions of
greenhouse gases.
In addition,
B45 achieved two years ago, a study that measured
the ecological footprint of the company which
helped to modify production operations and
minimize impact on the environment. B45
is also involved in the community by encouraging
our youth to learn about wood products and
to engage in the forest field. On that matter,
B45 is involved in an educational project
"Come Live the Forest" which enables
all kids of Quebec’s 3rd, 4th and 5th
high school grade to be aware of the importance
of forest and the opportunities available.
B45 bats are offered to kids who participate
in these demonstration workshops. Finally,
B45 is on consultation on the establishment
of a yellow birch replanting program for Quebec’s
forests. This will increase and ensure long
term availability and quality of Quebec’s
forest species national emblem «yellow
birch». |
